Enrichment

There is no denying that Sugar Gliders love a good wheel. I can bang on 'til the cows come home about how much better it is to keep enclosures full of enrichment that replicates what can be found in nature. But there is just no getting away from how much they love a wheel. I am constantly surprised by how much time Sugar Gliders will spend in these wheels. Equally surprising (at least to me) is how fast they take to a big, bright, plastic thing, that in no way looks like anything they would come across in their native habitat - it's super fast!

A note on wheels for Sugar Gliders. It is an absolute must that any wheel you choose is designed to be safe for Sugar Gliders. If you are not sure - then it not safe. Wheels that have not been made with the safe use of Sugar Gliders in mind, will cause grave injury to your Glider. If you are going to include a wheel in your enclosure, a 'Glider-Safe Wheel' is the only option to consider!

Wheels aside, they are a few other enclosure inclusions Sugar Gliders seem to really like. Hemp rope is a great addition. It is made from natural fibres which the gliders claws do not get stuck in. It is quite cheap and it can be used in a plethora of ways.

Tree branches of all different thicknesses are fantastic. They can be set up horizontally, vertically or anywhere in between.

Native leaves still on the branch are perfect, the gliders like to add these leaves into their nesting box. These smaller (now striped of green leaf) branches, can be removed and replaced with fresh leaves weekly to keep everything fresh and clean.

If you can find them, hollow branches are gold! Even if they are not the right dimensions to be used for nesting, they are perfect for the gliders to play with. From climbing in one end and out the other, to chewing at the edges to adjust the size to their own liking, any type of hollows can be used for enrichment.
